VOB is a container format contained in DVD-Video media. A VOB file contains the actual Video, Audio, Subtitle (VobSubs) and Menu contents in stream form.
VOB files are encoded like standard MPEG-2 files. If the extension is changed from .vob to .mpg or .mpeg, the file is still readable and holds all information, although most MPEG-2 players don't support subtitle tracks.
Dolby Digital (Ac3)
AC-3 (backronyms: Audio Codec 3, Advanced Codec 3, Acoustic Coder 3), or Dolby Digital, contains up to 6 discrete sound channels, with 5 channels for normal-range speakers (20 Hz – 20,000 Hz) and 1 channel (20 Hz – 120 Hz) for the subwoofer. The AC3 format supports also variants with the number of channels from 1 to 5.Many Dolby Digital decoders possess downmixing functionality to distribute encoded channels to available speakers.
