About Audio Interchange File Format
AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format) is an audio file format standard used for storing sound data on PC.
The audio data in an AIFF file are uncompressed big-endian PCM so these files are larger than files using lossless compression (such as FLAC) and much larger than files of lossy compression formats (such as MP3 and Vorbis). Uncompressed AIFF files at compact-disc settings (44.1K samples/sec, 16 bits, 2 channels) have a bitrate of 1411.2 kbit/s.
Each AIFF file is divided into a number of chunks.
